Is Aniimo a gacha game?

Short answer: no, not as it ships — creatures are caught, not pulled. But the question has a real history behind it, and it is worth knowing the whole thing rather than either half.

The timeline

  1. 26 June 2026 — the claim. Executive Producer Jovi Zhang tells MMORPG.com that “Aniimo is definitely not a gacha game. We are sure about that,” and that monetization “will mainly focus on people or Aniimo outfits”.
  2. July 2026 — the contradiction. The global closed beta ships the Irisalis “Crevice Exploration” event: spend a Crevice Beacon per attempt for a chance at the Legendary, with an accumulating currency providing a pity guarantee. Players read it as obfuscated gacha, and say so loudly.
  3. 3 September 2026 — the redesign. A dev letter removes it. Legendary acquisition becomes: collect tokens through exploration, craft a Legendary Aniipod, get a one-time encounter. The same letter deletes the rune system outright and flattens Prismana odds.

So the honest position is: a gacha-shaped system existed in testing, players pushed back, and it was removed before launch. Whether you read that as a studio listening or a studio caught trying is a judgement call — but those are the facts.

Collector's Edition£19.99£18.99

The price gap between platforms is real, not a typo, and the bundled pet is platform-exclusive — Doggo Dude on Xbox, Fluffy Friend on PlayStation. Steam and Epic have no pre-order pack at all; Steam's API returns no DLC and no packages.

The currencies

  • Lumin Crystals — paid. Buy items from the Shop. No in-game source listed.
  • Glimmer — earnable premium. Buys from outpost vendors; a dozen-plus sources including the battle pass.
  • Credits — the soft currency, “the standard currency issued by Astra”.

Beyond those there are well over a dozen more — Home Coin, Companion Coin, Pearl Cascade, Eggshell Coin, Training Points, Voxel Coin, Sparkling Crystal and others. Most are narrow exchange tokens for one system rather than general spending money.

Common questions

Is Aniimo a gacha game?

Not as it ships. Creatures are caught in the world with Aniipods, not pulled from a banner. Executive Producer Jovi Zhang said in June 2026 that Aniimo is "definitely not a gacha game". A closed-beta event for the Legendary Irisalis was gacha-shaped, and the 3 September 2026 dev letter replaced it with a crafted Legendary Aniipod and a one-time encounter.

Is Aniimo pay-to-win?

No live monetization has ever been tested. All three closed betas were explicitly non-paid, so no purchase has gone live and no probability rate has ever been published. Stated monetization is cosmetics, a battle pass and speed-ups. That is a developer commitment rather than an observed fact, and it can only be verified after launch.

Is Aniimo free to play?

Yes, on every platform, and it is included with Xbox Game Pass from day one. The paid editions are battle-pass bundles, not the game itself.

How much do Lumin Crystals cost?

The iOS listing shows six packs from 60 crystals at $0.99 to 6,480 at $99.99 — the same price ladder used by several other large free-to-play titles.

What happened with the Irisalis rift event?

During the July 2026 global closed beta, obtaining the Legendary Irisalis required spending a Crevice Beacon per attempt for a chance at it, with an accumulating currency providing a pity guarantee. It was widely read as obfuscated gacha. The 3 September dev letter redesigned it: you now collect tokens through exploration, craft a Legendary Aniipod, and get a one-time encounter.
